- Applies from: pending
Placeholders to fill in before approval
privacy@kiekie.example: replace with the real contact email (it appears below).[POSTAL ADDRESS]: a postal address in South Africa.[EFFECTIVE DATE]: the date these terms apply from (the "Applies from" line above).- Confirm with a reviewer that the "as is" wording below is acceptable under the Consumer Protection Act.
The short version
- Kiekie is for sharing one photo a day with your family.
- Your photos are yours. You can export them any time.
- Be kind, keep it family, and do not post anything unlawful.
- Kiekie is free and provided as it is. We do our best, but we cannot promise it will never break.
Who we are
Kiekie is run by Terence Hinrichsen (trading as Kiekie), South Africa ("we", "us"). Contact: privacy@kiekie.example (placeholder, to be replaced), [POSTAL ADDRESS].
By signing up you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we look after your information.
Who can use Kiekie
- You must be 13 or older. There are no independent accounts for children under 13.
- Use your own email address (or phone number), and keep your sign-in codes to yourself.
- Kiekie is for families. Only invite people you know and trust.
Your photos belong to you
- You own the photos you post, and anything else you put into Kiekie.
- You give us only the permission we need to store your photos and show them to your family in Kiekie. That permission is non-exclusive, free, and ends when you delete the photo or your account.
- We will never sell your photos, use them for advertising, or use them to train AI.
- You can export your photos and data at any time from Settings ("Export my photos and data").
- Only post photos you have the right to share. If someone in a photo asks you to remove it, please be kind and do so.
Acceptable use
Please do not use Kiekie to:
- post anything unlawful, or anything that harms, harasses, threatens or bullies anyone;
- post sexual content involving anyone under 18, or any sexual content without consent (we will remove it and report it to the authorities as the law requires);
- share other people's private information without their permission;
- pretend to be someone else;
- break, overload or try to get around how Kiekie works, or reach data that is not yours.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. That means anything above, and any photo that is hateful, violent, sexual or cruel, or that is meant to frighten or shame someone.
If you see something wrong:
- Report it. Open the photo, tap More (the three dots) and choose "Report this photo". A person at Kiekie looks at it; nobody is told who reported it. The photo is hidden for you straight away.
- Hide someone. If you would rather not see a family member's photos, choose "Hide Anna's photos" (with their name) from the More menu on one of their photos, or from their row in Settings > Your family. Only you can see who you hid, and you can show them again any time.
- Ask the organiser. Your family's organiser can remove someone from the family.
What we do: we act on every report within 24 hours. If a photo breaks these rules, we remove it. If someone posts objectionable content or treats others abusively, we remove them from Kiekie by deleting their account with all their photos and reactions, permanently. Where we can, we tell the person why. Where the law requires it, we also report it to the authorities.
Leaving Kiekie
You can leave any time. Export your photos first if you want to keep them, then delete your account (from Settings, or by emailing us). We remove your photos, reactions and membership from our systems straight away, and in any case within 30 days. Your family carries on without you.
The free service, as it is
Kiekie is free. We work hard to keep it running and to deliver your daily nudge, but we provide it as is: we cannot promise it will always be available, on time, or free of mistakes. Keep your own copy of photos that matter to you (the export is there for that).
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law that cannot be excluded, including under South Africa's Consumer Protection Act.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change applies. If you do not agree, you can export your photos and leave.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. If you live in the EU or UK, you also keep the protections your local consumer law gives you.
